WHERE LIFE THRIVES
WALKABLE URBAN PLACE
FROM EXPERIENCE
Walkable urban places have long helped us find our Flø. Naturally interactive, connected, and collaborative, they enrich our lives by seamlessly blending living, working, and playing into vibrant lifestyle and economy. Today, this integration is more powerful than ever.
BY THE NUMBERS
Walkable urban places are among the oldest in the world, designed for life on foot with everything nearby. In fact, in the US, this was the norm before cars reshaped our landscape.
Today, these places make up just 1.2% of cities yet generate an astonishing 20% of the nation’s GDP demonstrating just how impactfull these places are.
CHARACTERISTICS
Walkable urban places are generally densely populated areas with a high concentration of mixed-use development where residents can easily access essential services like shops, restaurants, workplaces, and public transit within about a mile radius with a human scale, pedestrian friendly design. Our view is that these are auto-inclusive and also include surrounding neighborhoods that are primarily single family homes. These pockets of places are scattered in a constellation throughout our metropolitan areas and often each have their own unique styles. They are generally city center and in the parts of cities built prior to the 1940’s.
